Trump says wants to invite Putin to G7 meeting after US elections

WASHINGTON, Aug 11 (PRIME) -- U.S. President Donald Trump wants to invite Russian President Vladimir Putin to the G7 summit that Trump wants to hold after the November U.S. presidential elections, Trump said in a news briefing on Monday.

When asked about inviting Putin to the meeting, he said, “I don’t know, but we have invited a number of people to the meeting. I certainly would invite him to the meeting, I think he’s an important factor, but we will invite certain people that aren’t in the G7. Some people have already accepted,” he said.

“But I think we’re going to be doing it after the election, I think it’s a better atmosphere to have a G7, I think it’s just a better calmer atmosphere to have a G7.”

Previously, Trump delayed the G7 meeting for September and said he wanted to invite four other countries to the meeting -- Russia, India, Australia, and South Korea.
